Above Average Lingerie & Fashions 115 East 1st Street, North Vancouver 604-988-0445 Fall 2010 The first half of this year has gone by in a blur for us. My daughter, Melissa, surprised us with a visit home (from Newfoundland) on Christmas day which was wonderful. Very early in the New Year our Mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Debbie and I spent the next five weeks caring for her until she passed away on February 15th. Every day, our Mom was involved with our lives and her passing has left a huge void. Lynda rejoined our staff during this difficult time and was a great help in keeping the store running. Three days after our Mom’s passing my family lost our beloved old dog. It has been tough times all around, but we recently adopted a new puppy and that has been a helpful distraction for all of us. My youngest daughter, Amy, is graduating high school this year, so our days have been filled with University applications, exams and graduation activities. Amy has received scholarships and awards (Top Scholar Honours Student). We are very proud of her. My eldest, Melissa who is 20, surprised us this spring when she decided to buy a house in Corner Brook, Newfoundland where she works and attends Memorial University. She moves into her new home on July 15th and plans to rent two rooms to other university students. What a gal! We would like to welcome our newest staff member, Alexandra. Alex, newly returned to Canada, lived for almost 30 years in South Africa where she married and raised her family. Alex has a background in bra fitting and has a positive, cheerful personality which we are sure you will enjoy. Although summer isn’t over yet our thoughts are turning to the upcoming fall season. We have several new items to tell you about so read on and let me give you a glimpse of some of these exciting items for Fall and Winter 2010...... Dawn Semi Annual Sale Saturday, July 10th WHAT’S NEW Every season at Above Average we like to offer some new and exciting items. Let’s start with the basics. Chantelle bras have been around for years and this fall we will be adding two styles to our collection. Pont des Arts, and Icone are the two new styles to watch out for. Both of these underwire bras offer beautiful European lace and have co-ordinating panties. The extensive size ranges and reasonable prices are sure to please everybody. Sizes available are: C 38-44, D 36-44, E 34-44, F,G,H 32-44. Bras start at $112. We are very excited about trying some new basic bras from Naturana. Naturana has a beautiful soft cup bra (no wire) with a black and purple lace cup in sizes up to a 44E for $55. Naturana also has two underwire bras; one in a black and silver combo up to 42F at $55 and one in navy blue up to 44DD at $40. We are really looking forward to seeing these new items at such affordable prices. For spring we introduced Pill sleepwear from Germany. This high quality, cotton knit sleepwear line has very unique designs in many lovely prints not found in any other lines we have had. Currently we have many short and mid-length gowns in stock. For fall we will have a few long sleeve, long gowns perfect to curl up in. If you are looking for something a little more romantic or sexy you will want to look at our new silk collection that will be available. The chemise gown has adjustable straps and a full fitted lace bodice (it really does fit). To complete the look there is also a co-ordinating silk robe available that will make you feel fabulous. For those of you who prefer PJ’s, there will be a good selection in cotton knits, flannel and satin charmeuse. This spring ByLyse fitnesswear was introduced to our store in very limited quantities. Several of the ByLyse items were so hot they sold out in a matter of weeks. One of the more popular items was a jacket in a royal blue chevron print; lots of style and great quality. For fall 2010 ByLyse offers us a solid colour jacket with a contrasting print trim, and two jackets with all over grey or teal prints. All jackets have co-ordinating tank tops or turtlenecks in sporty techno fabrics to complete your fitness ensemble. Comfy clothes with quality and style are what everyone is looking for. Very popular this fall, are big loose tops that can be worn over leggings, tights, or skinny jeans for an updated look. If leggings aren’t your style we will also have many other choices in tops and bottoms to complete the look that is right for you. **Don’t forget hand washing your lingerie will give it a much longer life.** TRIED & TRUE Over the years, Prima Donna has proved to be one of the top names in bras. One of their most popular styles is called Deauville. The Deauville bra is not only pretty, with a subtle striped lower cup and lace upper cup, but it offers great shape and support too. It is always available in ivory, latte and black with occasional seasonal colours. This fall, for a limited time, Prima Donna is offering this popular bra in a bold, beautiful raspberry colour. So if Deauville is your bra and you are interested in this raspberry colour, please let us know as soon as possible so we are able to have enough for everyone. This summer we have added another popular Prima Donna style, called Menton, to our bra selection. We currently have the Menton bra in stock in a lovely navy blue. Columbia Sportswear has had great, sporty, quality products in their line for the past few seasons and we are sure that Fall 2010 will be no different. This season will not only feature their great t-shirts, blouses and jackets, but will also include several great sweaters. Many of their items are made from technical fabrics for great wear and performance. Jackets are always water resistant or water proof. Prices are very reasonable on all of their products so it is very possible to add two or more of these great items to your fall wardrobe. We have had another awesome summer with Pretty Woman dresses and tops. There are dresses and tops for every shape and size that can take us from casual to dressy. These items are made of easy care nylon/lycra and are also great for travelling. There is an amazing selection of colours and prints available. Pretty Woman’s fall line will include more great tops as well as skirts, pants and special holiday pieces for the Christmas season. TAKE a BREAK Many busy women and Moms on the go don’t often get to “take a break” so we thought we would like to create some special times in the store when you can take a break and indulge in something designed especially for you. We are planning to have many options for you including health, beauty, fashion and fitness. We will provide refreshments and snacks and encourage you to take the time to participate in these events as well as a leisurely browse around the store. The first thing we have planned is “Facial Threading”. This is a popular technique used to remove that unwanted, fuzzy facial hair that becomes obvious when we have had a bit of sun and that make-up often adheres to. Debbie recently tried this and was very happy with the results. It left her skin feeling smooth and silky and was a lot less painful than some of the alternatives like waxing. This will be done by appointment on selected days to be announced by e-mail. It is always greatly appreciated.** Recipe With barbeque season all year long in Vancouver, we thought we would share our mom’s Spinach Salad. The dressing has a bit of a bite. Don’t put the dressing on until ready to serve, or let everyone put on their own, enjoy.
